Now for me, and a lot of other English speakers, Harry Potter is perfect because it checks all five boxes.

It is something that I'm already familiar with.

So when I read it, translate it into another language, my head just subconsciously fills into the gaps of the grammar,

So take this example excerpt from the Portuguese translation.

Let's say you're not entirely sure what verbarina means.

But luckily, this is something you're familiar with.

You know they're shopping for things.

Now, who was Mr. Oliveander, and what did he sell?

Oh, that's right.

So I assume that vardina means wand.

And throughout the book, your brain will just gradually fill in the gaps for a lot of these things.

Next, Harry Potter, even in the original English, is nothing particularly hard to read.

The complexity of the grammar, syntax, and vocab is fairly average as far as English goes.
