字幕节选(英语 · 中文)

  1. One of the questions I hear quite often is, "What should I read in English if I am an intermediate learner?"

    我经常听到这样一个问题:“如果我是一个英语学习者(处于中级水平),应该读些什么英文书籍呢?

  2. "Should I read Harry Potter?"

    我应该读《哈利·波特》吗?

  3. I am here to tell you why I don't recommend Harry Potter for intermediate learners.

    我之所以不建议中级学习者阅读《哈利·波特》系列书籍,是因为其中包含许多对初学者来说难以理解的内容和复杂的魔法概念。这些内容可能会让学习者感到困惑,从而影响他们的阅读兴趣和学习效果。因此,对于中级学习者来说,选择其他更适合他们的阅读材料会更为合适。

  4. Hello, hello.

    你好,你好。

  5. Welcome, or welcome back.

    欢迎您的到来,或者欢迎您再次回来。

  6. If you're new here, hi, I'm Jean.

    如果你是第一次来到这里,你好,我叫珍。

  7. It's nice to meet you.

    很高兴见到你。

  8. Today, I want to give you my

    今天,我想把我的……(此处应填写具体内容)分享给你们。

  9. reasons for why I don't recommend reading or watching Harry Potter if you are an intermediate or beginner English learner.

    我不建议英语水平处于中级或初级的读者观看或阅读《哈利·波特》系列作品的原因如下:

  10. So, first of all, if you're focused on American English, there is no American English in Harry Potter.

    首先,如果你只关注美式英语的话,那么《哈利·波特》系列中其实并不存在美式英语的用法。

  11. It is all British English.

    所有内容都是使用英式英语(British English)写的。

  12. On the subject of accents, not only

    关于口音的问题,不仅仅……

  13. are the Harry Potter movies British English,

    《哈利·波特》系列电影使用的是英式英语吗?

  14. but there are a lot of regional British accents in the movies that are less common in the UK and might be more difficult to understand.

    不过电影中出现了许多英国地区的口音,这些口音在英国并不常见,因此可能更难以理解。

  15. So, you're putting in a lot of work to understand an accent that is not super common.

    这么说,你付出了很多努力来理解这种并不常见的口音。

  16. Even if you are learning British English, a lot of the expressions used in the Harry Potter series,

    即使你正在学习英式英语,《哈利·波特》系列中使用的许多表达方式……

  17. in both the books and the movies, are old-fashioned by today's standards.

    无论是书籍还是电影中的那些人物,按照今天的标准来看,都显得有些过时了。

  18. These books, these movies don't really include a lot of modern or any modern slang.

    这些书籍和电影中并没有使用太多现代俚语。

  19. So, it's not a good representation of how British teenagers really talk today.

    因此,这并不能真实反映当今英国青少年的说话方式。

  20. Now, on the subject of vocabulary, another reason I don't recommend Harry Potter is because there are tons and tons of made-up words,

    现在来说说词汇的问题。我不推荐《哈利·波特》的另一个原因是:书里使用了大量的虚构词汇。

  21. meaning words that are not real words.

    这些“有意义的词”实际上并不是真正的单词(即它们并不存在于语言的正式词汇表中)。

  22. There are tons of made-up words that you will not use in real life.

    有很多虚构的词汇,你在现实生活中根本不会使用它们。

  23. So, by reading or watching Harry Potter,

    因此,通过阅读或观看《哈利·波特》这部作品,

  24. you're doing a lot of work to

    你付出了很多努力来……

  25. understand these words, but then you don't get the benefit of being able to actually use them unless you're talking about Harry Potter to someone.

    你虽然理解这些词语的含义,但除非你在跟别人谈论《哈利·波特》相关的内容,否则就无法真正使用它们(即无法将它们运用到实际交流中)。

  26. On the subject of vocabulary in general,

    关于词汇的一般性问题……

  27. there's not a lot of useful daily vocabulary in the Harry Potter books or movies because the characters are not doing common everyday things.

    在《哈利·波特》的书籍和电影中,并没有太多实用的日常词汇,因为书中的角色并不会从事那些常见的日常活动。

  28. About the books specifically, the books are written in a style that isn't very learner-friendly, even though it's supposed to be written for children.

    具体来说,这些书的写作风格并不适合学习者阅读(尽管它们原本是为儿童编写的)。

  29. It has a lot of long, complex sentences, so it might be quite difficult for an intermediate learner to keep up with.

    这篇文章中有很多冗长且复杂的句子,因此对于中级水平的学习者来说,可能很难跟上阅读节奏。

  30. So, none of these things are bad individually, but altogether, this is why I never recommend Harry Potter to my students unless you really,

    所以,这些事情单独来看并没有什么坏处,但综合起来看,这就是为什么我从不向我的学生推荐《哈利·波特》这本书——除非你真的对它感兴趣。

  31. really love Harry Potter and you're going to spend a lot of time discussing the Harry Potter books or movies in English.

    我真的很喜欢《哈利·波特》系列;你们会花很多时间用英语讨论这些书籍或电影的内容。

  32. Instead, for the intermediate level, I recommend Olly Richards' short stories.

    对于中级水平的学习者来说,我推荐奥利·理查兹(Olly Richards)创作的短篇小说。

  33. These are actually designed for intermediate learners.

    这些内容实际上是专为中级学习者设计的。

  34. I myself have several of Olly Richards' short story books for beginners in French, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish.

    我自己就拥有好几本奥利·理查兹(Olly Richards)为法语、巴西葡萄牙语和西班牙语初学者编写的短篇小说集。

  35. So, I can tell you from experience that the stories are pretty interesting and definitely useful for learning.

    根据我的经验,这些故事非常有趣,对学习来说也确实很有帮助。
