I went from understanding nothing in English to getting my C2 level certificate.

I am pretty sure my story has a lot to teach you.

Because I am a non -native English speaker.
因为我不是以英语为母语的人。
English is not my first language.
英语不是我的母语。
In fact, it's my third.

So how did I learn English?
那么，我是怎么学会英语的呢？
It all started when I was 8 years old.
一切都始于我8岁那年。
Back then, I remember clearly one day a friend of mine, a classmate, came, sat next to me and said,

did you know that this creature is called a fish in English?
你知道吗？这种生物在英语中被称为“fish”（鱼）。
That word was very, very strange.

The whole concept of a new language was very weird to me.
这种“创造一种新语言”的想法对我来说实在非常奇怪。
And I'm telling you this, because I want you to know where I started from.
我之所以跟你们说这些，是因为我想让你们了解我的起点是什么。
I did not know the alphabet of English.
我当时还不认识英语字母表。
I did not know anything about the language.
我对这种语言一无所知。
And so one day, my parents told me that we want you to learn English, because it's useful for your future.
有一天，我的父母告诉我，他们希望我学习英语，因为这对我的未来很有帮助。
I did not have a very specific goal.
我并没有一个非常具体的目标。
I was 8 years old.
我当时8岁。
I wanted to go out and play with my friends.

But my parents said, it's something useful.

And actually, right now, I'm very grateful for what they did.

So they said, you need to learn English.

And back then, there was only one option.

Go to a language school and sign up.
去语言学校报名吧。
And so I did.

From the age of 8 to the age of 12, for four years,
从8岁到12岁，共四年时间。
I went to a language school, following traditional books.
我参加了一所语言学校的课程，学习内容基于传统的教材。
There's a teacher, there are classmates, there are students, you sit down, and you do as the teacher in struts.
有一位老师，还有一些同学；你坐下来，然后按照老师的指示去做。
That was when I didn't learn English.
就在那个时候，我还没有学会英语。
What do I mean?

Four years?
四年？
But did I really study?
但我真的认真学习了吗？
No.
不。
I was just there to have fun.

I was just there to play with my new friends.
我只是去那里和我的新朋友们一起玩耍而已。
Back then, there was a game center, right across from the language school.
那时候，语言学校对面有一家游戏中心。
And I remember clearly, my parents would drop me off in front of the school.
我清楚地记得，我的父母总是把我送到学校门口。
And I would go inside, but then I would wait and check and see if they've left or not.

And when I saw that they had left, I would walk back and go across the street
