If you ask me almost a decade ago,
如果你在差不多十年前问我……
this question, what do you want to be when you grow up?
这个问题是：“你长大后想成为什么？
Or what do you want to do with your life?
或者，你究竟想如何度过自己的人生呢？
I'd probably leave you with no answer.
我可能会直接不给你任何答案。
And that's because I genuinely do not know.
那是因为我真的不知道。
I was an A-level student figuring life, or shall I say, enjoying life.
我当时是一名高中毕业生（A-level学生），正在思考人生的方向……或者更确切地说，我正在享受生活。
I was privileged enough to be one of the students in the most prestigious school here in Brunei.
我有幸成为文莱最负盛名的学校的学生之一。
My friends told me, my parents told me and my teachers told me to focus on your studies.
我的朋友们告诉我，我的父母也告诉我，我的老师也同样告诉我：要专心学习。
I always have.
我一直都是这样。
Have that in mind.
请记住这一点。
But I don't have the privilege to have academic as my weapon.
但我没有这样的特权：可以将学术知识当作自己的“武器”来使用。
I wasn't the bright student,
我并不是那种成绩优异的学生。
but every time I mention where I'm from, without a fail, I'll get a wow.
但每次我提到自己的家乡时，总会有人惊叹不已（说“哇”）。
She's got brain.
她很聪明。
Well, scientifically, I do.
从科学的角度来看，我的确是这样认为的。
We all do.
我们都会这样做。
But then I'm not the A star student.
不过，我本来就不是那种成绩名列前茅的优等生罢了。
I wasn't a straight A student,
我并不是那种成绩全优的学生。
so I compensated in a different way.
所以我用另一种方式来弥补（这个缺失）。
If you knew me from back then, I appear a lot on stage.
如果你那时就认识我的话，就会发现我经常出现在舞台上。
Not for public speaking, though.
不过，这并不适用于公开演讲场合。
I sang, I've retired.
我曾经唱歌，现在我已经退休了。
Please don't ask me to sing.
请不要让我唱歌。
I've always missed my class.
我一直都很想念我的同学们。
Then I always tell my teacher.
然后我总会告诉我的老师。
Miss.
小姐。
I'm sorry I can't attend to your class again.
很抱歉，我无法再参加你的课程了。
But then, on the other hand, I was like, yes, we all been there.
但另一方面，我又想：没错，我们都经历过这种情况。
I truly enjoyed my time.
我真的很享受那段时光。
At one point I was a choir captain.
有一段时间，我担任过合唱团的队长。
I was the head of field performance.
我曾负责现场表演活动的统筹与管理工作。
I was enjoying life,
我正享受着生活。
but I was struggling academically.
不过我在学业上遇到了很多困难。
So with this question.
那么，关于这个问题……
There's one thing that I always ask myself.
有一件事我总是会问自己。
It hasn't come up to my mind that what I want to be because all of my friends,
我从未想过自己真正想成为什么样的人，因为我的所有朋友……
they have their career path set.
他们已经规划好了自己的职业发展道路。
I want to be a doctor.
我想成为一名医生。
I want to be a lawyer.
我想成为一名律师。
