The verb to shoot, which is shot in the past tense, means to film something or take a photo of something.

For example, the Lord of the Rings movies were shot in New Zealand.

Here we have a construction using the passive voice to be seen.

The passive voice shows that the person who does the action is one of these three things.

Unknown, not important, or in this case, general.

Many people see Earthrise This would be the active form, but we want to focus on the photograph,

Next we have the adjective iconic.

The first syllable is pronounced with a long I sound, iconic.

This means that something or someone is very famous and represents a very important idea.

The verb illuminate means to fill a place with light.

So here, the adjective illuminated means to be filled with light.

If a place is barren, that means the land or soil has no plants growing on it.
