So, please do sit back and enjoy today's episode as we kick it off with the verb throb, throb.
We spell this T H R O B.
Throb.
Throb.
To throb is to produce a strong, regular beat.
So, if we say that parts of our body is throbbing, then it means that you mostly feel pain in a series of regular beats,
like you might say, "Oh, my head's throbbing."
And it means like with the rhythm
of your heart or your pulse, you're feeling little surges of pain in this kind of regular beat with a regular rhythm,
a throb.
It doesn't necessarily always mean pain.
Sometimes your feet might ache.
So, it's not that you're feeling the pain necessarily.
Maybe you're just very aware of a pulse somewhere.
So, if you've been on your feet all day and you finally sit down and the blood rushes to your feet,
you might feel the throb of your pulse in your feet.
But most of the time when someone's talking about something throbbing, then they're saying it's a bit painful in a rhythmical way.
Here's an example sentence, "Her head throbbed with pain after a long day of work."
Now, I am the queen of injuries.
I've had so many injuries and incidents and accidents, probably because I've thrown myself around much more than the average person.
I'm the kind of person who also just gets on and tries to do things even though in my head I think,
"Mmm, I should probably ask for help."
Like trying to move an entire wardrobe by myself or trying to lift a huge box full of heavy ceramic tiles.
Even when the box says, "This requires two people to lift."
I'll still try and do it by myself.
I remember, actually, in the summer, just gone, I was moving paving tiles, or paving slabs, we would call them.
So, in the garden, these huge slabs that we use as paving.
They were piled up at the back of the garden and I wanted to lay some down in the garden to make a little path.
My partner didn't agree that this was something we should spend our time doing right now, but I had an idea,
and I wasn't willing to let it go.
