The first thing you need to pay attention to is connected speech or linking.

In many languages, native speakers connect words when speaking naturally.

Because of this, it's sometimes hard to tell when one word ends and the next word begins.

There are many different types of connected speech in English, but today I will focus on three of the most important ones.

The first one is consonant to vowel linking.

This happens when one word ends with a consonant, and the next word begins with a vowel.

This type of linking is really common with phrasal verbs because many particles begin with a vowel sound.

The next type of linking is consonant to consonant linking.

The next type of linking is assimilation.
