Well then, let's jump right in.

Section one of our lesson is the word you were never taught.
我们课程的第一部分内容，是一个你从未被教过的单词。
You see, textbooks teach the dictionary word.
你看，教科书里教授的只是字典里定义的那些单词而已。
Native speakers, however, reach for a completely different one, and that's the word that makes you sound like you belong.
然而，以该语言为母语的人会选择另一个完全不同的词汇；正是这个词汇才能让你听起来像是一个真正属于这个语言群体的人。
If there are moments when you're speaking and people look at you and they're looking at you in a weird way,
有时候你在说话时，人们会用一种奇怪的眼神看着你……
or you feel like when you're speaking, your words don't sound like native speakers, it's because you've been using textbook English.
或者你觉得自己在说话时，用词听起来不像母语者那样自然，那是因为你一直使用的是教科书式的英语表达方式。
So let's check out a few situations and compare textbook English versus real English.
那么，让我们来看一些具体的情况，对比一下教科书中的英语表达与实际生活中的英语表达吧。
Here's our first situation, being out in the rain.
这是我们的第一个场景：在雨中外出。
Now, textbook English is very wet.
现在，教科书里使用的英语表达方式显得非常“冗长”或“啰嗦”（即缺乏简洁性）。
This is a correct statement, but it's textbook English.
这是一个正确的陈述，不过用的是非常规范的、符合教科书标准的英语表达方式。
However, real-life English is the word drenched, which means soaked completely through, every layer of clothing heavy with water.
然而，在现实生活中，英语中的“drenched”一词指的是衣物被水完全浸透的状态——每一层衣物都充满了水。
You see the difference.
你能看出其中的区别。
Very wet, yes, it's very true, but that's textbook English.
确实非常潮湿，但这正是英语中的典型表达方式（属于“教科书式”的英语用法）。
When I go outside, if it's raining heavily, I can say, "Oh, man, I'm drenched."
当我外出时，如果雨下得很大，我就会说：“哦，天哪，我全身都湿透了。
Textbook English, very wet.
典型的“教科书式英语”……不过内容确实相当“露骨”（或：描述得很直接/具体）。
Real-life English, drenched.
现实生活中的英语……充满了各种情感与细节。
What about this situation right here?
那么，这种情况该如何处理呢？
Let's say you're going to a coffee shop.
假设你要去一家咖啡店。
Now, textbook English would be very tired.
现在，那种符合教科书标准的、过于正式的英语表达方式确实会让人感到乏味（或者说：这种表达方式缺乏生动性和吸引力）。
Maybe you are feeling tired at the coffee shop.
也许你在咖啡店里感到有些疲倦。
But real life English is wiped.
但现实生活中的英语表达方式几乎已经被完全忽略了（或者说已经被彻底摒弃了）。
It means completely drained of energy, usually after a long stretch of effort.
这意味着能量已经完全耗尽，通常是在经过长时间的努力之后。
So yes, you're tired, but you'd say, "Ah, I'm wiped.
所以，没错，你确实很累，但你会说：“啊，我真的累坏了。
I need to get some coffee.
我需要去喝点咖啡。
I need some energy."
我需要一些能量。
Again, textbook English, very tired.
还是那种教科书式的英语表达方式，实在让人感到乏味至极。
Real life English is wiped.
现实生活中的英语表达方式几乎被彻底摒弃了（或者说，已经发生了巨大的变化）。
What about our third situation?
那么我们的第三种情况呢？
Our third situation is dealing with an airport.
我们的第三种情况是处理与机场相关的事务。
Now, you could describe this individual sitting at the airport by saying stressed, but that is textbook English.
现在，你可以用“压力很大”来形容这个坐在机场的人，但这种表达方式属于非常刻板的、教科书式的英语表达方式。
On the other hand, real life English is frazzled.
另一方面，现实生活中的英语表达往往显得混乱无序（或者说“杂乱无章”）。
Frazzled means mentally scattered and worn out from too much going on at one time.
Frazzled”这个词形容一个人因为同时面临太多事情而精神上变得混乱不堪、精疲力竭。
In English, real life English, we say frazzled.
在现实生活中（也就是用英语表达的时候），我们会说 “frzzled”（意思是“精疲力竭的、烦躁不安的”）。
Now, very tired, yes, good example.
现在，确实非常累了……不过，这确实是一个很好的例子。
Stressed, yes, good example.
确实处于压力状态中，这是个很好的例子。
Very wet, yes, good examples, but they're textbook examples.
确实非常潮湿，这些例子也相当不错，但它们都属于教科书里典型的例子罢了。
Now you have the real life English examples, which leads us to section number two.
现在你们已经掌握了现实生活中的英语例子，这让我们进入了第二部分的内容。
