本视频讲解英式与美式英语的四大区别:发音、拼写、词汇和语法。适合练习发音和语法,帮助英语学习者选择适合自己的英语口音。
Hello everyone!
大家好!
Today we're gonna compare British English to American English by looking at their four core differences,
今天,我们将通过分析英式英语和美式英语之间的四个核心差异来对比这两种英语形式。
accent, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar.
口音、拼写、词汇和语法。
Personally, I believe that vocabulary and grammar are the most fun parts, so make sure to watch this video until the very end.
就我个人而言,我认为词汇和语法是最有趣的学习内容,因此请务必看完这个视频的全部内容。
So the first part we're gonna talk about is, of course, accents.
那么我们首先要讨论的部分当然是口音问题。
You probably already know that British accent and American accent are extremely different.
你可能已经知道,英国口音和美国口音之间存在很大的差异。
If you watch a movie, most of the time you can tell which accent it is.
如果你看电影,大多数情况下你都能分辨出电影中人物使用的口音属于哪种类型。
Sometimes it's that obvious.
有时候,事情就是那么明显(即很容易被察觉)。
When we talk about accents as English learners, we really have to remember one thing.
当我们作为英语学习者谈论口音问题时,确实有一件事必须牢记。
It is important to pick one accent and stick to it.
选择一个口音并坚持使用它是非常重要的。
It doesn't sound good if you speak British English in American English, just in one sentence.
如果你用英式英语在美国说英语,那么这句话听起来就会很不自然(或者说“不太对劲”)。
Some of the words you say are clearly British and you pronounce them with a really good British accent,
你说的有些单词显然是英国英语,而且你的发音带有非常纯正的英式口音。
but some of them are really American.
不过其中有些确实具有典型的美国特色(或:有些作品真正体现了美国的文化精髓)。
So my advice to you is just pick one accent and try to really work towards it.
所以我给你的建议是:选择一种口音,然后努力去模仿并掌握它。
Personally, I picked American accent because for me it's way easier than British English.
就我个人而言,我选择了美式口音——因为对我来说,美式口音比英式口音容易掌握得多。
I think a lot of people agree that British accent is extremely difficult.
我认为很多人都认同:英国口音确实非常难学。
There are a lot of sounds that
有很多声音……
are so complicated and a lot of learners from a lot of different countries are just not used to this kind of sounds.
这些发音非常复杂,而且来自许多不同国家的学习者通常都不习惯这类发音方式。
That's why I picked American English.
这就是我选择美式英语的原因。
The second reason for choosing American English is that nowadays we're just bombarded with all this information from the United States like movies,
选择美式英语的第二个原因是:如今我们每天都会接收到大量来自美国的信息,比如电影等。
TV shows, everything we watch is mostly in American English.
电视节目以及我们观看的所有内容,大多都是用美式英语制作的。
So it means that it's just going to be easier for you and for me to improve our American accent.
这意味着对我们双方来说,改进我们的美式口音都会变得更加容易。
And of course, here I would like to recommend the book that I always talk about how to master the American accent.
当然,在这里我想推荐那本书——我一直都在谈论如何掌握美式口音的技巧。
I genuinely love this book because it once helped me improve my accent.
我真的很喜欢这本书,因为它曾经帮助我改善了自己的口音。
But actually, sometimes I refer to this book like once a month,
但实际上,我大概每个月会翻阅这本书一次。
if I forget anything or if I just need to brush up on my knowledge of the American accent.
如果我忘记了什么内容,或者只是需要复习一下关于美国口音的相关知识的话……
So now let's actually talk about the difference.
那么现在,让我们来谈谈这两者之间的区别吧。
And the most obvious difference for a lot of English learners is that in America, people always say the letter R and it is true.
对许多学习英语的人来说,最明显的区别在于:在美国,人们总是会发字母“R”的音,而这确实是事实。
But now a quick history lesson.
不过现在先来上一节简短的历史课吧。
The difference is between American and British accents actually took place after the first settlers moved to the United States
实际上,美国口音和英国口音之间的差异是在第一批移民移居美国之后才逐渐形成的。
when the America was first discovered.
当美洲首次被发现的时候……
Back then in Britain, all people talked to using a lot of R's in their speech.
在过去的英国,人们说话时经常会使用很多“R”音。
So back then, like a lot of years ago in Britain, people actually pronounced all the R sounds.
早在很多年前,在英国,人们确实会发所有的“R”音。
And this kind of speech is actually called Rotic speech.
这种说话方式实际上被称为“罗蒂克语”(Rotic speech)。
It's when you pronounce all the R's.
就是当你把所有的 “R” 音都发出来的时候。
Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, the middle
与此同时,在英国,情况则是另一番景象……
classes decided to distinguish themselves from their common masses by just dropping the R sounds or by making them softer.
某些学生群体决定通过省略或弱化“R”音来让自己与普通同学区分开来。
And that's how day by day British people just started dropping their R's.
就这样,日复一日,英国人逐渐开始不再发“R”音了。
And now, as you already know, in Britain, most people, not all people, obviously, but most British speakers don't pronounce the letter R.
现在,正如你们已经知道的那样,在英国,大多数人(当然不是所有人)在发音时不会发字母“R”的音。
And to clearly illustrate this example, I'm going to try to pronounce some words for you and try to make them as British as possible.
为了清楚地说明这个例子,我会试着为你念一些单词,并尽量让发音具有英国口音的特点。
