    今天,我有一个不同的课程要讲给你们听。

  4. And that's because I have my magic marker in one hand and my vowel chart on the wall.

    这是因为我一只手拿着魔法马克笔,另一只手可以随时看到墙上的元音发音表。

  5. And we're going to talk about all the vowels of American English I'm gonna walk you through this vowel chart.

    接下来,我们将讨论美式英语中的所有元音。我会带你一起了解这个元音图表。

  6. You might have seen it in the past.

    你可能以前见过它。

  9. to pronounce them and what are the challenges that you might be facing as you trying to pronounce these sounds as a non-native speaker.

    如何正确发音这些单词?作为非母语者,在尝试发出这些音素时可能会遇到哪些挑战呢?

  10. So, let's begin.

    那么,让我们开始吧。

  11. This is a diagram of your mouth basically.

    这基本上就是你口腔的示意图。

  12. So you need to think of it

    所以你需要仔细考虑一下。

  13. as if it's the profile of a

    就好像这是某个人的个人资料(profile)一样……

  14. person as if I'm standing like this

    (说话者以某种特定的姿势站立,仿佛在向对方展示自己的样子)

  15. and all the vowels on the left part of the chart are front vowels that means that the tongue is rolling forward to produce those vowels,

    图表左侧的所有元音都属于“前元音”类别,这意味着在发这些元音时舌头需要向前移动。

  16. okay, these are front vowels in comparison to back vowels where the tongue pulls back okay.

    好的,这些是前元音(front vowels),与后元音(back vowels)相对;后元音发音时舌头会向后移动。

  17. So, basically, the horizontal axis shows you the position of the tongue, the placement of the tongue in comparison to the front of the mouth:

    基本上,横轴表示舌头的位置,即舌头在口腔前部的具体位置。

  18. the front or the back.

    前面还是后面?

  19. Now the vertical axis is basically the position of your jaw.

    现在,垂直轴基本上代表了你的下颌的位置。

  20. So as you go higher on the chart then the mouth is more closed, the jaw is more closed,

    因此,在图表中越往上的位置,嘴巴和张开的程度就越小,下巴也闭得越紧。

  21. for example I-I and as you go down the jaw drops.

    例如,当你顺着(某物)向下看时,会感到惊讶(或震惊)。

  22. Now technically it's not really the position

    从技术层面讲,这其实并不算一个真正的“职位”(或者说,这个职位的定义并不明确/不符合常规的职位定义)。

  23. of the tongue but it's actually the

    虽然这个词很容易说出口(或者说它“就在舌尖上”),但实际上……

  24. space between the tongue and the upper

    舌头与上颚之间的空隙

  25. palate okay and as you open your

    (此处原文似乎有些不完整或语法错误,以下是根据语境推测的中文翻译:) “口感还不错……当你打开它的时候……

  26. mouth there is more space between the tongue the body of the tongue or the highest part of the tongue and the upper palate okay.

    在口腔中,舌头、舌根以及舌头的最上部与上颚之间其实还有更多的空间。

  27. So position of the tongue in relation

    那么,舌头相对于其他部位的位置是怎样的呢?

  28. to the front of the mouth or position of the tongue in relation to the roof of the mouth Clear?

    指的是舌头在口腔中的位置,特别是舌头相对于上颚(口腔顶部)的位置。明白了吗?

  29. Good.

    很好。

  30. Now there are a few other elements

    现在还有其他一些元素需要考虑。

  31. that we're gonna talk about as we go along Let's begin with front vowels and I'm gonna take my magic marker for that.

    我们会随着讨论的进行逐步展开这些内容。首先,我们来看看前元音(front vowels);为此,我会使用我的魔法马克笔(magic marker)。

  32. So as we go to the left part of the chart in the highest point of the chart we see the i sound.

    当我们看向图表左侧的最高点时,可以看到字母 “i” 的发音。

  33. i This sound is the i as in 'see, 'we' and 'she' Okay it's a high vowel, high because the tongue is high.

    这个音就是字母 “i” 的发音,比如在 “see”(看)、“we”(我们)和 “she”(她) 中的发音。它属于高元音,之所以被称为“高元音”,是因为发音时舌头的位置较高。

  34. It's a tense vowel because all the articulation organs are really tense.

    这是一个发音非常紧张的元音(即发音时需要用到所有相关发音器官,并且这些器官都处于高度紧张的状态)。

  35. The lips pull to the sides of it i-i we she okay

    嘴唇向牙齿的两侧拉开了……我们……她……好吧。

  36. and that is in comparison to the relaxed ɪ sound that also exists in American English.

    这是与美国英语中存在的那种较为柔和的 “ɪ” 音素相比较得出的结论。

  37. Now as you can see it's a little lower here, a little lower on the chart that means that the tongue is a little lower.

    如您所见,在图表上这个位置稍微低一些,这意味着舌头的位置也相应地低了一些。

  38. So one of the ways to do that is to just drop your jaw a little bit ɪ ɪ It's a relaxed sound,

    那么,实现这个目标的方法之一就是稍微放松一下下巴(也就是让下巴稍微下垂一点)。这种发音方式会给人一种放松、轻松的感觉。

  39. it's the laxed ɪ sound and we find it in words like fish ship and rich

    这里的 “ɪ” 音发得很松软(即发音不紧绷)。我们可以在一些单词中找到这种发音,比如 “fish”、“ship” 和 “rich”。

  40. Okay, relaxed ɪ sound.

    好吧,我听起来确实很放松。
