Today, we are talking about something you may have said to yourself.

I will speak English when I feel ready.

It sounds like a good plan.

Learn more words, study a little more, then one day open your mouth and speak.

But when called Sarah.

Sarah had a small notebook.

Every evening, she wrote five English words in it.

Her writing was beautiful.

She used different colors.
她使用了不同的颜色。
She added examples.

After a year, she had several notebooks.

But she had never had a full conversation in English.

Then a new neighbor moved into her building.

Her name was Kate, and she spoke English.

One morning, Sarah saw Kate.

She was near the front door.

Kate was holding two bags and looking for her keys.

Sarah wanted to say, can I help you?

She knew every word.

Four small words.

But then she began to think.

What if she answers quickly?

So Sarah looked down and walked past.

Upstairs, she put her bag on the table and she felt sad.

She did not need another word in her notebook.

She needed a chance to use the words already there.

The next morning, she saw Kate again.

This time Kate was carrying a large box.

Sarah felt the same worry.

Her heart was beating fast.

Her hands felt warm.

She did not suddenly feel ready.
