We're going to make this a quiz: 15 idioms in total, 3 rounds of questions.

I'm also going to tell you some of the possible origin stories of the idioms, as I really think they can help you remember them.
我还会告诉你一些这些习语可能的起源故事，因为我觉得这真的能帮你记住它们。
Let's start with round 1, it's multiple choice.

The first two are animal idioms.

Number 1.

'My dog Diego gets the ___ share of the bed.'

Which animal is missing?

If you 'get the lion's share of something', you get the biggest or best part of it.
如果你'get the lion's share of something'，意思就是你得到了其中最大或最好的部分。
Imagine Diego sprawled out on the bed while I'm curled up in a corner.
想象一下Diego摊开四肢躺在床上，而我蜷缩在角落里。
Another example: 'Carrie did the lion's share of the work, but John got most of the praise.'
再举个例子：'Carrie干了大部分工作，但John却得到了大部分表扬。'
Notice how I tend to use the weak form of 'the,' before a consonant sound—ðə lion's share.
注意我在辅音前倾向于用'the'的弱读形式——ðə lion's share。
Okay, next animal.

Is it 'dogs', 'cats' or 'rabbits'?

It's 'dogs'.
是‘狗’。
'Let sleeping dogs lie' is often said as a warning and it means don't mention something bad that happened in the past.
‘别惊动睡着的狗’常被用作警告，意思是不要提起过去发生的坏事。
It might have been something people have forgotten about and if something isn't currently causing problems, it's best not to talk about it.
那可能是人们已经忘记的事情，如果某件事目前没有引起问题，最好就不要谈论它。
It's quite a literal one—don't wake a sleeping dog.
这个说法很直白——别吵醒睡着的狗。
Okay, number 3.

'Get your ___ on or we'll miss the beginning of the film!'

Is it 'skates', 'skateboard' or 'blades'?

It's 'skates'.

'Get your skates on' means hurry up.

You'll also hear 'put your skates on'.

Now, this is a British idiom and, again, it's quite literal.
这是一个英国习语，同样也很直白。
If you put ice skates or roller skates on your feet, you can move faster.
如果你穿上溜冰鞋或轮滑鞋，就能移动得更快。
Well, some people can, not my husband.
