希望这种方式既有趣又简单易懂。
So, let's start today's episode with, can you guess?
那么,让我们以这样一个问题来开始今天的节目吧:你能猜出来吗?
Yes, another noun and it is moodiness.
是的,这又是一个名词,它的含义是“情绪多变”或“喜怒无常”。
Moodiness.
情绪多变;喜怒无常。
We spell this M O O D I N E S S, moodiness, moodiness.
我们把这个词拼写为“M O O D I N E S S”(情绪多变、喜怒无常)。
Moodiness is used to describe a person's tendency to experience frequent and unpredictable changes in mood.
情绪多变”指的是一个人容易频繁且难以预测地改变情绪状态。
So, for example, teenagers tend to suffer with moodiness.
例如,青少年往往容易情绪波动(即情绪不稳定)。
They often jump from being very happy to being angry, to being sad, and then excitable.
他们的情绪变化非常剧烈:一会儿开心得不得了,一会儿又突然生气;接着会变得悲伤,然后又变得兴奋不已。
And this can be unpredictable and frequent.
这种情况既难以预测,又可能频繁发生。
And that's because they are experiencing many hormone fluctuations.
这是因为他们的体内正在经历许多激素水平的波动。
And, you know, life is tough when you're a teenager.
你知道的,青少年时期的生活确实很艰难。
When you're moving from the beauty and ease of childhood into the confusing and unknown wider world as a young adult,
当你从一个充满美好与轻松的童年阶段,步入作为一个年轻成年人所面临的这个复杂而充满未知的广阔世界时……
it's a very hard time for a young person.
对一个年轻人来说,这确实是一段非常艰难的时期。
I remember my teenage years being quite dark and difficult and I was quite moody.
我记得自己的青少年时期充满了阴郁和困难,情绪也极其不稳定。
I suffered with moodiness a lot.
我经常情绪低落、心情不好。
So, here's another example sentence.
那么,这里还有一个例句。
"The teenager's moodiness made it difficult for her parents to communicate with her".
这个青少年的情绪波动很大,导致她的父母很难与她进行有效的沟通。
Next on the list, is an idiom and it is someone or something's name escapes you or escapes me if I'm talking.
列表中的下一个条目是一个习语(idiom),指的是在说话时,某个人或某件事的名字突然想不起来了(也就是“记不起来了”)。
So, if you say that someone's name escapes you, you're saying that you
所以,如果你说某人的名字想不起来了,其实你的意思是……
cannot recall or remember that person or thing's name at that moment in time.
在那一刻,我无法回忆起那个人或那个事物的名字。
So you're clear on the words, someone or something's name, N A M E, escapes you.
那么,你应该很清楚这些词语的含义吧……只是有某个人或某物的名字突然想不起来了(也就是那个“名字”从你的记忆中“消失了”)。
Escapes, E S C A P E S, and then whoever it is, you, me, them.
逃跑……”无论那个人是谁——是你、是我,还是他们——我们都必须逃跑。
So, you cannot remember the name.
所以,你记不起那个名字了。
I do this all the time.
我经常这样做。
I'll say, "Oh, I was at the supermarket this afternoon.
我会说:“哦,今天下午我去超市了。
I just popped into grab a box of eggs.
我只是顺路进去买了一盒鸡蛋而已。
I needed a dozen eggs to make pancakes for breakfast for everybody tomorrow.
我需要一打鸡蛋,以便为明天大家的早餐制作煎饼。
And I bumped into, oh, what's their name?
然后我遇到了……哦,他们叫什么来着?
Oh, I bumped into the lady, you know, the lady who is usually in the post office.
哦,我碰到了那位女士,就是那个经常在邮局工作的那位女士。
Her name escapes me right now.
她的名字我现在想不起来了。
Her name escapes me.
她的名字我一时想不起来了。
But you know who I mean.
但你们应该知道我在说谁。
The lady from the post office.
邮局里的那位女士。
Vera!
真的吗!
Yes, that's the one!
是的,就是那个!
That's the one."
就是那个。
So for me, this is a common thing.
对我来说,这种情况很常见。
